Can land transfer relax credit constraints? Evidence from China

چکیده
Although many studies have examined what drives credit constraints and their negative impact, evidence on the mechanism of relaxing is scarce. This paper explores effective solutions to help households improve access credit. Using China Family Panel Studies data from 2018, we employ an endogenous switching probit model examine whether extent land transfer can ease constraints. We find that in or out are, respectively, 31.4% 21.4% less constrained than those do not. Participation transfers borrowers’ financial situations through income increases pledging assets as collateral, alleviating both formal informal Our results suggest any government initiatives promote efficiency boost economic growth China.

Does Off-Farm Labor Relax Farmers’ Credit Constraints? Evidence from Longitudinal Data for Vietnam We examine the relationship between participation in non-agricultural labor activities and farming production decisions, focusing on the use of inputs. In particular, we are interested in the hypothesis that income from non-agricultural labor relaxes credit constraints. Using longitudinal data for...
متن کاملCredit Constraints, Quality, and Export Prices: Theory and Evidence from China
This paper examines (i) the relationship between the credit constraints faced by a firm and the unit value prices of its exports, as well as (ii) the relationship between the export prices of a firm and its productivity. The paper extends Melitz’s (2003) model of trade with heterogeneous firms by introducing endogenous quality, credit constraints and marketing costs. There are three key finding...
متن کاملMigration, Liquidity Constraints, and Income Generation: Evidence from Randomized Credit Access in China
With full labor mobility, microcredit may finance production inputs that increase household labor demand and reduce migration. However, when migration is constrained by liquidity, access to credit may increase both migration and household business activity, yielding greater potential income gains. This study empirically examines the impacts of credit access on migration using data from a random...
متن کاملCredit Constraints, Job Mobility, and Entrepreneurship: Evidence From a Property Reform in China
This paper provides new evidence on the impact of private property rights and employer-provided housing on entrepreneurship. I find an increase in self-employment following a reform in urban China that allowed state employees who were renting state-owned housing the opportunity to buy their homes at subsidized prices. I develop a model of job choice to test two mechanisms that might explain how...
متن کاملCredit Constraints under Interaction of Supply Rationing and Demand Depression: Evidence from Rural Households in China
This paper analyzes the credit demand depression phenomenon resulting from long-term institutional supply rationing. Under the interaction between imperfect formal credit system and rural households’ risk aversion behavior, rural households will be discouraged to depress their credit demand or replace it with informal credit, which we call demand-side credit constraints. It find that about 33.7...
